Tutus for Tots
Start your little ones off right with the correct curriculum and professional instructors. It will make all the difference as they grow and take classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, and Tumbling. Tutus for Tots is suitable for children ages 3 to 4½ years old. The classes introduce students to the structure of a dance class where listening and following directions are very important. Students learn basic ballet steps and begin to develop musicality. Imaginative exercises and improvisational dance are elements of each class, which encourages students to discover the pure joy of movement and creativity. Our Tots perform in both our winter and spring shows so that they begin to become comfortable on stage and in front of an audience.
Ballet & Pointe
Ballet technique is essential for the development of a strong and versatile dancer. Beginning classes focus on proper placement and body alignment, and students are taught how to turn out safely from the hips. As students advance, training encourages precision, a quickness and lightness of movement, the ability to cover space with ease and grace, and a refined carriage of the upper body. Those who develop the required strength and control are promoted to pointe shoes.
Tap
Tap dancers have the unique opportunity to be musicians and dancers at the same time. Tap class will begin with a set warm up focused on technique, clarity of sound, musicality, and strengthening the mind and body. Students will gain experience in traditional tap vocabulary through learning and practicing a variety of tap steps, short phrases, tap turns, and choreography using different rhythms supported by a wide range of music. Developing confidence in tap improvisation will also support a student’s ability to discover her or his own tap voice and style.
Tumbling for Dancers
Tumbling classes will teach students, through repetition, how to safely and effectively execute skills with strength, power, agility, and control. All classes begin with a cardio warm-up followed by stretching with a focus on the ankles, wrists, neck, and back and conclude with conditioning. In each class, students will learn body awareness and how to correctly fall out of a skill without injury. Classes focus on a wide variety of skills including forward rolls, handstands, back and front walkovers, aerials, front and back handsprings, jumps, and leg holds. Tumbling classes provide important supplemental training for dance students but are open and accessible to non-dancers as well.
Jazz, Contemporary & Lyrical
Jazz technique is essential for the development of a strong and versatile dancer. All jazz classes are structured for the technical development of the student and focus on proper alignment, musicality, flexibility, precision, groundedness, and control. Students on our Competition Team work on contemporary and lyrical pieces and contemporary and lyrical classes are offered as a part of our Summer Intensive. Contemporary and lyrical classes focus on floor work, supple use of the spine, breath work , musicality, strength, flexibility, and control.
